The Rediscovered Cellar: From Utility Space to a Designed Experience
In the heart of Milan, within a historic building, this project represents a concrete example of the redevelopment of an underground wine cellar, transformed into a welcoming, functional space with strong aesthetic value.
Located two levels below ground, the cellar has been completely reimagined through a bespoke intervention that enhances a formerly technical environment, converting it into a fully climate-controlled wine room dedicated to the preservation and management of a private wine collection.
The design integrates custom-made wine rack modules in wood and metal, combining order, accessibility, and visual impact. The different storage configurations—horizontal display, compartments for wooden crates, and dedicated spaces for large-format bottles—allow for efficient and well-organized wine management.
The warm wood finishes, paired with a dark and textured color palette, help create an intimate and refined atmosphere, transforming the cellar into a space that is both enjoyable to experience and technically aligned with the standards of a professional wine cellar.
Particular attention has been given to the technical systems, with dedicated solutions for temperature and humidity control—essential to ensure proper wine preservation even in an underground setting.
This project demonstrates how an existing cellar can be transformed into a design-driven wine environment, enhancing hidden spaces and giving them a new identity, perfectly in harmony with the architectural context of Milan.
